Hydrogen is one of those game changers in the energy market and a great fuel for ships. It’s nothing new: research on ship-borne fuel cells consuming hydrogen spans more than 30 years. Recently though, in search of appropriate fuels that reduce GHG emissions and dependence on oil, hydrogen has emerged both as a fuel and as a storage medium for renewables.
Recently China and Australia have stepped up the game. Enel joining the club signals that it skepticism towards hydrogen is reduced, possibly foreseeing that the market in the next few years will turn to hydrogen.
