Who we are

Marine Startups started by Dimitris Servis: closely related to the shipping industry and startup scene, the market gap in providing information on maritime startups was apparent, in particular within the rising digitalization wave. So Dimitris thought, if I don’t do it, who’s gonna do it?

Over time it became apparent that the market need is substantial but one person alone cannot cope. However, the magic of Marine Startups had brought me close to Rahul Damodaran and Chris Clott, two amazing professionals. We decided to join forces and share our passion for the ocean economy and the startup scene through Marine Startups.

Christopher (Chris) has worked in the Maritime logistics field for shipping companies and universities for 40 years. He is currently a Visiting Professor at the Center for Advances in Port Management at Lamar University and Co-Founder of Marine Startups, an innovation center. Previous roles have been at SUNY Maritime in New York where he founded the New York Maritime Innovation Center (NYMIC), California Maritime Academy in the Bay Area, and the University of St. Francis, Elmhurst University, and St. Xavier University in metropolitan Chicago. Chris worked for OOCL (USA) and Lykes Lines in the shipping industry prior to academia. Chris has published research and worked with firms seeking to introduce new maritime technologies. Chris has a Ph.D. from the University of Illinois-Chicago, an MBA from St. Xavier University, and a BA from Fordham University.

Dimitris is a product and software architect with extensive experience in technical software. Dimitris has worked in shipping and shipbuilding, automotive and industrial production roles. A Naval Architect and Marine Engineer, holds a diploma and PhD from the National Technical University of Athens and an MBA from Warwick Business School.
