Heesen launches second hybrid superyacht: 50m Electra

It’s not uncommon that new tech will find its way first to niche, high value segments and then become more widely available. With hybrid and electric prime movers there’s a more balanced approach, mainly because it ‘s a follow-up of the introduction in the automotive industry. Premium segments are nevertheless also nudged towards the cleaner, quieter and more sustainable alternatives to diesel engines and for a good reason. The owners and guests of superyachts appreciate the more subtle sailing.

Along these lines, Dutch shipyard Heesen has launched their second hybrid superyacht in the 5000 aluminium FDHF class: the 49.8-metre Electra. Since hitting the water for the first time last week, Electra is being prepared for intensive sea trials in the North Sea ahead of her April 2020 delivery date.
